Building Permits
Whether you are building new construction, remodeling a structure, adding an accessory structure to your property (such as a shed, fence, pool, deck, storm shelter etc.), or infilling into an existing commercial space, most construction projects will require a building permit. Permits are required to ensure that structures in Nixa are built correctly per city building codes for safety. Our city planners and building inspectors will review your construction plans and check the progress of the project to ensure it is built properly not only on behalf of the current property owner, but to ensure that minimum safety and quality standards were met as a reassurance to your neighbors and any future buyer of the property.

Crime Prevention
The Nixa Police Department prides itself on proactive crime prevention efforts. We believe in high-visibility policing as a tactic to discourage criminal behavior. When potential criminals see our officers out on patrol, the perception of our presence throughout the community works as a deterrent to crimes.
We also take a community-oriented approach to policing, which means we rely on strong relationships with the people of the town to alert us to issues of concern so we can take proactive, not just reactive measures to prevent and reduce crime.

Nixa City Staff Stream Team
A couple times each year, usually in the spring and fall, the city sends some staff volunteers to float a section of the rivers near Nixa to clean out trash and help make sure everyone in our community can safely enjoy the beauty of our local waterways.
The team floats about a 4.5-mile long section of the Finely River or the James River. Despite any obstacles along the way everyone pitches in and powers through. There always seems to be an unofficial contest among our team members to see who collects the most tires, largest piece of junk, and most unusual piece of trash. In the past, crews have found a large koi pond, steel barrels, storm pipe, MANY tires (some still on wheels), and numerous green trash bags full of miscellaneous trash.

Many of us think of our pets as family. The City of Nixa offers several pet-friendly services.

Nixa Safe Exchange Zone
The sale, buy or trade of goods via social media is taking place more and more every day. While most transactions occur with no problem, it’s best to be safe. The camera video and audio are not monitored but are recorded.
