Watch What You Flush!

Please never flush feminine hygiene products or “flushable” wipes (they aren’t actually flushable) down your toilet. Toilet paper is specially designed to dissolve in water, but other paper and cloth products are not. When you flush items that aren’t “flushable,” it can cause the city’s sewer system to get clogged and can even cause filthy sewer water to come back into your home.

The picture to the right is debris that Nixa Utilities crews pulled from one of the city’s sewer lift stations. This clump of “unflushables” caused a major clog in our system and if it had not been addressed quickly by our staff, could have eventually caused backups into homes. Fixing these problems is labor intensive and expensive for the city, as well as unsafe for the crews working. Please think before you flush.
