Part of the wastewater treatment process is to separate sludge as part of the biological process. This project is for the construction of a new sludge basin to increase the sludge storage capacity of the treatment plant by 700,000 gallons of material.

The new sludge storage basin is to be constructed of reinforced concrete with a dimensions of approximately 190′ in length, 40′ in width, and 14′ of liquid depth. The basin is proposed to be divided into 3 sections to allow staff flexibility in storage volume used and to allow for maintenance. An aeration system consisting of blowers and diffusers is planned and is a key part of the treatment process. The addition of air can increase or slow biological processes to achieve the proper sludge profile while also allowing for mixing to occur in the basin. Thicker waste sludge may be sent out for land/field application or composting.

The proposed sludge basin improvements should serve the City for  decades to come and assist the City in providing proper treatment in conformance with permitting requirements.
