Completion for the current phase of this project is projected for Summer 2024.

This project is designed to fix flooding problems through an old area of town from North St. south to John Thomas School of Discovery (JTSD). It includes adding pipes, storm boxes, and area inlets to alleviate flooding during large rain events. In 2023, intended to start on the south end at JTSD north to approximately Cherry St.

Phase 1 of the project is complete which includes new larger stormwater pipe and materials from the south end of the project at Rice Street, north to the west side of Market Street, and construction to extend the stormwater piping north several hundred feet. Phase 2 is currently underway which includes the construction of new larger stormwater pipe and materials from the west side of Market Street, north to S. Becky Circle.

Progress from Cherry Street To S. Becky Circle

Crews have finished burying the new stormwater pipe from Rice Street to the northern portion of Cherry Street. They are now working on installing piping up to S. Becky Circle.  Once crews finish the installation to South Becky Circle, they will work to open Cherry Street to the public. Currently, new sidewalk has been poured along the southern portion of Cherry Street. It is anticipated that the roadway will open within by Mid-May.

Street Closure - March 19th

Cherry Street will be closed starting Tuesday morning, March 19th. It is anticipated that the closure will last approximately four weeks. The project will consist of removing the current roadway between 303 & 305 East Cherry Street to install new stormwater piping.  Following the installation, new asphalt will be added. This is the second phase of the project which will provide stormwater improvements from Rice Street to North Street.

All easements for phase three of this project have been acquired. Construction bids will begin soon.
