Pet Tags

If you reside inside Nixa city limits, any dogs or mini pigs you own will be required to have a Nixa Pet License.

Fee:

• $2/year for spayed or neutered dogs
• $3/year if not spayed or neutered

These licenses expire December 31st each year and must be renewed annually for each dog or mini pig kept inside city limits.

Proof of rabies vaccination is required to obtain a Pet License. This helps us ensure that all dogs inside the city are properly vaccinated against rabies, reducing the danger of any dog bites which may occur to humans.

Nixa Animal Control regularly finds missing dogs without dog tags, and this makes it difficult to identify the owner and reunite lost pets with their humans. The Nixa dog tags we will issue with your pet license allow Animal Control to return your lost pet more quickly.

Nixa City Ordinance Sec. 6-37. – Dog licenses.

(a) There shall be a licensing tax imposed in the amount established by ordinance on all dogs that are not spayed or neutered and kept as pets within the city limits. This licensing tax must be paid by the owner or owners of any dog, provided that the animal is more than 12 weeks of age.

(b) The fee for licensing a spayed or neutered dog will be in the amount established by ordinance; but, in order to receive this reduced fee, the owner must present verification from a licensed veterinarian of the procedure. All owners must present evidence of vaccination to obtain an animal license.

(c) Service dogs used for handicap assistance must also be licensed; however, their fee may be waived. Proof of dog training for handicapped assistance and evidence of vaccination are required in order for fee to be waived.

Nixa City Ordinance Sec. 6-38. – Affixing dog tags.

The owner of any dog shall ensure that all city and/or vaccination tags are properly affixed by a permanent metal fastening device to the collar of the dog in such a manner that the tag may be easily seen by anyone that comes in contact with the dog. It shall be the responsibility of the owner to ensure that the tags are constantly displayed on the dog.
