Letter from the Mayor: May 2026

May 1, 2026

It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve the citizens of Nixa as your Mayor over the past three years. When I first took office, I made a commitment to be accessible, transparent, and dedicated to making Nixa an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. That commitment has only deepened with time.

Thank you to everyone who came out to vote in April. The trust you have placed in me to continue this work for a second term is something I do not take lightly. Over the past three years, I have had the privilege of meeting so many remarkable members of this community — your passion for Nixa, your investment in its future, and your willingness to engage in the life of this city inspire me every day. I am genuinely excited about what the next three years hold, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside you to move Nixa forward.

As we enter May, our thoughts turn naturally toward remembrance and gratitude. This month, we are honored to recognize the brave men and women who have given their lives in service — including two of our own from right here in Christian County.

Earlier this spring, the City of Nixa hosted a tree dedication ceremony at McCauley Park in memory of Christian County Sheriff’s Deputies Gabriel Ramirez and Michael Hislope, who were killed in the line of duty in February. It was a deeply moving honor to stand alongside Sheriff Brad Cole, members of the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, and officers from the Nixa Police Department as we dedicated two trees in their memory. These trees will stand as a lasting tribute to their sacrifice and a reminder to all who pass through that park of the price of the freedom and safety we enjoy each day.

A special thank-you is owed to Tim Hammer and Angela Brooke, whose heartfelt idea brought this dedication to life. Their thoughtfulness in organizing the ceremony ensured that Deputies Ramirez and Hislope were honored with the dignity and care they so richly deserve. It is this kind of community spirit — neighbors looking out for one another and honoring those who served — that makes Nixa truly special.

As we approach Memorial Day, I encourage all Nixa residents to take a moment to reflect on the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and our communities. Please join us for our annual Memorial Day Ceremony — a meaningful opportunity to come together as a city and pay our respects. And for those looking for some hometown fun, don’t miss Nixa SuckerDays — one of our community’s most beloved traditions. Events like these are a reminder of why so many of us are proud to call Nixa home.

Thank you again for your trust, your support, and your continued love for this city. It is the privilege of my life to serve you.

With gratitude,

Mayor Jarad Giddens
