Letter from the Mayor: June 2025
Letter from the Mayor: June 2025
June 1, 2025
Dear Nixa Citizens,
As we welcome June, I find it remarkable how quickly time passes when our community is thriving with activity. I want to take this opportunity to share some of the exciting developments and celebrations that made May such a memorable month for our city.
Celebrating Our Students and Future Leaders
Celebrating our students is one of the best parts of our community, I was able to celebrate both Nixa and Ozarks high school graduations, with family walking across the stage in both. I was also honored to attend the Nixa Baccalaureate, which featured inspiring student-led worship and an outstanding presentation by Jim Middleton.
The Nixa Future Farmers of America annual banquet was another highlight, where I witnessed firsthand the remarkable achievements of these dedicated students. Their accomplishments in such a short time are truly impressive, and I was grateful to celebrate alongside them.
At the SCORE career fair, I had the pleasure of speaking with many engaged students who showed genuine curiosity about local government and civic leadership. These interactions with our youth are among the most rewarding aspects of serving as mayor, as young people consistently bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to our community discussions.
Recognizing Excellence in City Leadership
I’m proud to announce that our Assistant City Administrator, Cindy Robbins, has been selected to receive the prestigious Richard R. Noll Award. This statewide honor recognizes one assistant city administrator who demonstrates exceptional service beyond their standard duties. Mrs. Robbins’ dedication to our city for our 30-years makes her incredibly deserving of this recognition.
Securing Our Community’s Future
Throughout May, I worked closely with state and federal legislators to advocate for funding opportunities that will support our infrastructure needs, including streets, sidewalks, and stormwater projects. By actively pursuing available grants, we can maximize our resources and advance projects that are currently on hold due to budget constraints. We are always working to find the most fiscally responsible way to provide what our citizens need.
Community Programs and New Amenities
In partnership with Nixa Public Schools and the Nixa Community Branch Library, we successfully launched our One Nixa One Read program with our Summer Kickoff Party. This citywide book club brings our community together to read and discuss quality literature, culminating in a celebration that includes watching the film adaptation. This summer, we’re reading “Charlotte’s Web,” and I encourage all residents to participate in this engaging community experience. If you missed the Kickoff Party you can still pickup the book at the Nixa Community Branch Library.
We also celebrated the grand opening of our new splash pad at McCauley Park. This exciting addition to our parks system provides free family entertainment and represents the collaborative efforts of our Parks and Recreation staff, City Administration, and City Council.
Looking Ahead to June
June promises to be equally eventful. We’ll begin the month with Nixa Parks Volunteer Days on Saturday, June 7th, from 9 AM to noon, sponsored by Legacy City Church. Reach out to X Center if you would like to help out! That same evening, we’ll host our first Movies in the Park event of the summer, featuring “Moana 2” at dusk, courtesy of The Massengale Group.
I encourage you to follow our social media pages for the most current information about upcoming events and city news. The City of Nixa Facebook page, Nixa Parks and Recreation Facebook page, and the Nixa Police Department Facebook page all share different updates.
As we enter the summer season, I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve as your mayor and look forward to the many community activities ahead.
Sincerely,
Jarad W. Giddens
Mayor of Nixa
