Letter from the Mayor: July 2025
July 2, 2025
Dear Nixa Citizens,
As we celebrate Independence Day this month, I’m reminded of what makes our community truly special. There’s something magical about July 4th in Nixa – when evening falls and fireworks light up the sky from every corner of our city. It’s not just one organized display, but hundreds of families creating their own celebrations, turning our entire community into a spectacular, spontaneous fireworks show. When you witness that moment, you can feel the joy radiating from countless happy families, all celebrating the freedoms we hold dear.
This beautiful tradition perfectly captures the spirit of independence that our nation was founded upon. The freedoms we celebrate on July 4th – the right to speak up, to participate in our democracy, and to shape our community’s future – are not just historical concepts. They’re living, breathing rights that require our active participation to protect and preserve.
That’s why I encourage every citizen to stay informed and engaged with the decisions that affect our daily lives. Whether it’s city, county, or state government, your voice matters. I want you to know that I will always represent your interests at every level of government, but democracy works best when we all participate together.
Staying connected is easier than ever. I encourage you to follow the social media pages for the City of Nixa, Christian County, Nixa Public Schools, the Nixa Chamber of Commerce, Nixa Police Department, Nixa Parks & Recreation, and Explore Christian County. These channels keep you informed about upcoming events, opportunities to get involved, and important community updates. We also hold two city council meetings each month, and every citizen is welcome to attend and speak during public comment periods. Your input helps shape the decisions that impact our neighborhoods, our schools, and our future.
Speaking of community connection, we have some wonderful events coming up this month. Join us for Movies in the Park on July 26th, sponsored by The Massengale Group, where we’ll be showing Despicable Me 4. It’s a perfect family evening under the stars.
The Nixa Chamber of Commerce continues to provide excellent opportunities for business networking and community involvement. This month features an Economic Development Update from City Administrator Jimmy Liles and Show Me Christian County President Kristen Haseltine at their monthly lunch on July 8th. A Women’s Wellness Talk on “Recharge and Reconnect” led by Courtney McKinney of HAD Hydration will take place July 15th at the Working Women in Nixa lunch, and a New Member Mixer at Rocco’s Pizza on July 24th.
Don’t forget to check the school calendar for upcoming One Nixa classes and events. We recently wrapped up our One Nixa One Read city-wide book club, where we all enjoyed Charlotte’s Web together – another wonderful example of how we come together as a community.
Whether you’re looking to connect for business opportunities or simply to make new friendships, Nixa offers countless ways to get involved. The more informed and engaged you become, the more you’ll discover the amazing opportunities our city has to offer.
As we celebrate our nation’s independence this month, let’s also celebrate our community’s spirit of participation, connection, and shared purpose. Together, we make Nixa the special place we’re all proud to call home.
Wishing you and your family a safe and happy Independence Day!
Sincerely,
Mayor Jarad Giddens
