The continued and rapid growth of the City of Nixa has contributed to the Nixa Police Department’s (NPD’s) records setting number of calls for service (CFS) in 2019. Because of this ever-growing population, NPD completed a remodel to add much-needed office space in 2018. As “The Progressive Choice of the Ozarks” we continued to enhance the department by improving our technology and connectivity to include our audio and visual tools in both our recently remodeled conference and training rooms and even in the field to increase productivity. The department is also looking forward to the completion of an improved, modern and enhanced outdoor firing range to accommodate rifles, shotguns, pistols and an onsite classroom in 2020. The department is focused on continuing its excellent service to the community by joining the Springfield/Greene County report management system (RMS) consortium with grant funds received to improve information sharing and the collection of statistical crime data in the region. Visit our crime statistics web page for more information.
This rapid growth has also contributed to the Nixa Police Department’s records setting number of calls for service (CFS) and has continued to rise from 28,785 CFS in 2018 to 38,317 calls for service in 2019. These increased demands in services caused our dedicated staff to work harder than ever, but they also continued to receive overwhelming support from our strong community, schools and businesses. This support is even more evident with the City of Nixa Council and Mayor continuing to keep our rich benefits package, while still approving raises for all staff at the police department to include the addition of four additional patrol staff for 2020. The additional staff will bring our total authorized strength to a total of 41 full time commissioned staff that includes one part-time officer. The continued support by our City of Nixa Council and Mayor has allowed us to deploy a Lateral Hire Program for the position of police officer and the ability to update our selection process to allow continuous recruitment in 2020 to fill these additional police officer positions.
The benefits of technology are important to NPD. We currently provide a mobile data terminal (MDT) in every patrol car that includes automated systems such as Niche RMS and various services from REJIS Law Enforcement Services. These services include a Law Enforcement Data Base (LEWEB), REJIS Law Enforcement Traffic System (LETS) and REJIS Mobile Ticketing. To increase officer safety in 2020, we will be integrating our current systems with Tyler/New World Mobile with Shield Force that works on laptops, tablets, and smartphones in the field to improve the collection of statistical crime data. These enhancements are possible due to grant funds and will include instant unit and crime mapping and the ability to view real-time positioning of our units. The Nixa Police Department utilizes several other web-based programs such as LEFTA Systems that includes field training and training applications. LEXIPOL Policies and Updates is also utilized to place information and technology at our officers’ fingertips.
