Matt Barker represents District II. He is a substitute teacher for Nixa Schools. Born in southwest Missouri, Matt grew up moving around frequently as the son of a pastor and missionary but graduated high school in Oklahoma. He attended MSSU in Joplin and Liberty University. He holds an A.S. in Law Enforcement, a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration, and an M.A. in Christian Ministry.
The father of two boys, Calix and Chael, Matt and his wife chose to move to Nixa in 2014 after their first visit to town. Matt says they love the family mentality of Nixa and the amazing schools.
Matt sought to serve on city council because he wanted to make an even greater impact on his community. Barker says, “I want to be a voice to those who think they don’t have a voice and let people know that their needs are important. You work hard for what you love, and I love Nixa.”
The biggest goal for Matt is to see Nixa remain a healthy, balanced, family-oriented community as we grow. He also wants to see Nixa businesses thrive and for downtown revitalization to continue and be completed in the years to come. “I simply want to leave a legacy of truly being a voice for the people of Nixa and that I always served with integrity and compassion,” says Barker.
Matt says, “I’m just a regular guy who loves Nixa and I want to see it grow, but remain what Nixa is all about as we grow.”
