summer hours

  • Winter hours: 8:00 am to 4:15 pm Monday through Saturday.
  • Summer hours: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Mondays 8:00am-4:15pm.
  • The recycle center is closed on Sundays and designated holidays.
  • The City of Nixa Recycling Center is open to residents who live inside Nixa city limits and is not available for use by commercial businesses.
  • Those that live outside the City of Nixa boundaries but still have a Nixa telephone prefix of 724 or 725 may obtain a permit to use the facility at City Hall. Such a permit costs $36 a year and entitles the holder to limited use of the recycling facilities. Permit holders will not have access to the yard waste area.

Items accepted at Nixa Recycle Center and their requirements:

  • Paper
    • Newspapers: Newspaper ONLY, as delivered. Do not bundle or tie. Do not mix with magazines or phone books.
    •  Mixed Paper: Includes magazines, phone books, and office paper. Can be placed in brown paper bags but not plastic bags.
    • Corrugated Cardboard. Clean and broken down only.
  • Glass
    • Green, brown, clear, etc. Bottles and jars only, such as pasta sauce jars, pickle jars, jelly jars, etc. Must be cleaned and lids removed. Please, no lead crystal or light bulbs of any kind. Ceramic coffee mugs will not be accepted.
  • Plastic
    • #1 through #7 Plastic Bottles: Usually 2-liter soda bottles, milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, butter tubs, etc. Must be cleaned and caps removed. Please do not leave plastic gardening pots or seed tubs.
  • Metal
    • Aluminum Cans: Beverage cans such as juice or soda. Must be cleaned and can be flattened. Please, no aluminum foil, disposable foil baking pans, or pet food cans, they have liners that are unacceptable.
    • Metal Cans: Soup, fruit, and vegetable cans. Must be cleaned and labels removed. Please, no dog or cat food cans as they have liners and are unacceptable.
  • Other
    • Yard Waste: Tree limbs, brush trimmings, leaves and grass clippings. There are marked bins for disposal of these items and they must be dumped out in the appropriate bins, not left in containers or plastic bags.
    • Large Appliances: The Recycle Center will accept large household appliances including stoves, washers, dryers, and water heaters. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units may be accepted ONLY if they do not contain compressors and are accompanied by legal certification stating that a licensed technician has removed the CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons).


Items Not Accepted:

  • Hazardous Materials
    • The Recycle Center WILL NOT ACCEPT any hazardous waste materials, including motor oil, anti-freeze, paint cans, dry or wet, acids, batteries, caustics such as household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, needles or other pharmaceutical paraphernalia.   • Construction Items
    • Carpet, finished wood products, building lumber, or construction debris, toilets, sinks and other ceramics. No Styrofoam, plastic sheetings.
  • Computer Equipment
    • The Recycle Center is unable to accept computer equipment such as monitors, screens, keyboards, and towers. However, there are facilities in Springfield that do accept computer recyclables. Please contact the Computer Recycling Center at 417-866-2588 or visit for further information.
  •  Mattresses and Box Springs
    • The City of Nixa is a member of a solid waste district, which means Nixa residents are able to participate in mattress recycling, a service which is partially funded by grants. You can recycle your boxsprings and mattresses by dropping them off at the BedHead processing facility at 304 Southwest Main Street in Billings, MO. Their hours are Monday - Friday, 7am to 5pm in winter and 7am to 6pm in summer. There is no need to call ahead. You may leave items and payment under the covered drop-off area.       Cost: $10 per item for drop off.

      BedHead will come to your location to pick up your mattresses and box springs for a charge of $25, plus $10 per item. Pick up services are available on Tuesdays.   • Other
    •  No scrap metal, barbed wire or other wire fencing material will be accepted. No tarps or plastic grocery bags. No large trees or rootballs. And no animals, dead or alive.
