Electric Work Along Hwy 14
You may have noticed electrical workers along State Highway 14 with bucket trucks parked right alongside the road. Please drive carefully around these crews.
Gridliance, a company which owns transmission lines which bring electricity to Nixa substations from area power plants (Nixa Utilities owns the distribution lines which carry power from our substations to homes and businesses) has hired a contractor to install new, more robust electric lines from our Downtown Substation near Main and 14, to our Espy Substation, behind Espy school on Gregg Rd. This work includes installing new steel power poles to replace the old wooden ones. These improvements will make our system more robust with less likelihood of outages.
During the installation process, the contractor will be working with businesses along State Highway 14 to schedule temporary outages to upgrade the system at the time which is most convenient for the business. We expect this work to be completed within the next couple of months. This work is also necessary to move electric infrastructure out of the way so State Highway 14 can be widened later this year to 5 lanes by contractors overseen by MoDOT.
