The dare logo Program

Many experts in education and medicine believe substance abuse prevention must begin early. dare logotargets students when they are vulnerable to try drugs or alcohol. The dare logolessons help children build their self-esteem, manage stress, foresee behavioral consequences, resist pro-drug media messages, and identify alternatives to drug use. It doesn't just tell them to say ''NO''; it teaches them how to say ''NO''.

Since its inception, the dare logocurriculum reaches over 200 5th grade students per year, with visitations and instruction to kindergarten through fourth by a certified, experienced and dedicated police officer. A new program to help stop violence in schools was started in the sixth grade in Nixa is called V.E.G.A. (Violence Education and Gang Awareness). Return to top

V.E.G.A.

The curriculum content for V.E.G.A. is organized into five 45 to 60 minute lessons to be taught by a uniformed law enforcement officer, who is dare logo trained.

The purpose of V.E.G.A. is to help students and adults become aware of the destructive nature of gangs and violence to develop more positive ways of dealing with these issues.

Research has also shown that children learn best from other children. The more positive opportunities we can give our young people to interact with each other, the greater their productivity and development. Return to top
