Criminal Investigations Division
Currently, there are two detectives and a supervisor assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. Their responsibilities include the investigation and follow up of misdemeanor and felony crimes reported to the Nixa Police Department. Currently, there are approximately 350 cases assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division annually. The detectives are trained in various specialties such as child abuse, sex crimes, arson, sudden death, interrogation/interview techniques, and narcotics investigations. They also provide public education on crime prevention in areas such as identity theft. All unsolved cases are routed to the Criminal Investigations Division for review. If a case has a good chance of solvability, the case is “Open” and investigated by a detective. Case solvability is determined by the existence of leads. These leads must indicate the potential for successful arrest and conviction. If sufficient leads do not exist, the case will be labeled “Inactive.” If new information develops in the future, a case can be reopened and investigated by a detective.
